Bluemoon Kennels was created on December 31, 1990 when Rick and Chris Rosenberg decided to get Chesapeake Bay Retrievers back into their lives. Rick had grown up and hunted with Chessies all his life. His family bred them and he loved the puppies. With the purchase of a seventy acre farm in Wisconsin, they went looking for their first pup. They purchased a wily bitch. On their way to see that litter, a beautiful silver fox ran across the road in front of them. Since it was the night of a Blue Moon, it seemed only appropriate to call her Bluemoon Vixen. This in turn became Bluemoon Chesapeake's.
We are not a large breeder, only one litter a year or so, therefore we strive to carefully breed for temperament, trainability and good looks, without loosing that great desire to work in the field, as the breed was originally bred.
Rick and Chris with their two sons share their home with this wonderful breed. We welcome any conversations about this breed, whether your a novice or die hard lover of the breed.
